Sigils and Chaos Magick

In these uncertain times, we are all looking for any advantage we can find to help us succeed in our goals and wishes. This is where magic steps into the spotlight, specifically Sigil Magic.

Magic Sigils are a creative, easy, and powerful form of magic that can stand on its own or be used to assist other forms of witchcraft. It is a tool to allow our unconsciousness to speak through the language of symbols and find an oblique route to your goal, which at it’s core is the very basis of witchcraft.

Classic Sigil Construction:
1. Write out your desire/goal
2. Cross out all the vowels
3. Cross out all repeated letters

Mash the remaining letters into a single glyph then start massaging this glyph until it looks more pleasing to you. There is no right or wrong way to do this, as your unconsciousness is different than mine (highly likely).

The glyph does not need to look like anything in particular as long as it is pleasing to YOU, here are a few tips I’ve picked up over the years.

• use positive words rather than negative words

• Have fixed or very clear goals

• Use the PRESENT tense

• Describe the completed situation rather than the desire to get there (I live in a beautiful home that is fully paid off) rather than (I want to buy a house).

In his book “Chaos Protocols”, Gordon White terms the phrase “Shoaling” for the notion of launching several sigils at once to increase our success in achieving a BIG goal - such as financial independence. These smaller sigils should and can be dozens of smaller, higher probability outcome sigils that might include terms such as a promotion for your significant other, or the resignation of a colleague you are in competition with. After each successful shoal, the probabilistic path to the big goal shifts are reloaded and done again.

But most importantly for this work is to Divine for the pitfalls - shoal sigils to nudge for beneficial probabilistic outcomes that avoid or skirt around them.

Sigil Activation

Should be performed in your personal ritual space that is clean and asctetically pleasing to you.

1. Pre-Ritual Preparation

   I typically use any old pen and paper to generate the sigils I intend to launch. Once I am happy with their designs, I inscribe each finalised sigil on an individual piece of cardstock paper using a special pen that has been ritually consecrated for this purpose. The colour of paper I choose depends on the purpose of the sigil - for Mercury based tasks, I would choose a green or orange piece of cardstock for example. Some people use paint pens for this task, but I use inks that I have enchanted for this work.
   Once you have finished creating your sigils, gather all the rest of your candles, incense, lighters and anything else you will need in your ritual space.
   
   It is important to have all of these things at the ready so you do not need to break ritual to find something!
   
   2. Ritual Opening

   Make sure you and your ritual space are clean and that you are dressed according to the planetary spirit you are invoking if applicable (again, wearing green or orange if contacting Mercury)
   
   Lay out and light the candles and incense you have chosen and arrange your sigil cards in front of you. Some witches sit on the floor with the cards in front of them, some place them on the working altar - it’s up to you.

   While standing, close your eyes and turn a little to your right, sweeping your hand in front of you. Visualize grey dust and miasma being swept hundreds of feet away from you, through the roofs and walls before ultimately dissolving. At the same time say,
   HEKAS, HEKAS, ESTE BEBELOI
   Continue moving around in a full circle, sweeping with your hand and repeating the phrase. Do this until you no longer feel the need to and then sit in front of your sigils and candles.

   3. Invocation

   If you already work with a divinity or other being, invoke them now. If you do not already work with one you do not need to select one based on rulership of your main goal; you need one that is all about the magic. We are creating a manifestation space here so depending on your project or headspace, my go-to’s are Thor (Jupiter) or Freya (Venus).
   
   Let’s use Thor as our example. I have found great success in invoking this spirit using one of the Orphic Hymns and have posted one of these below. However, you can use any of the Orphic Hymns out there.

   The Fumigation from Frankincense and Manna.
   I Call the mighty, holy, splendid light, aerial, dreadful-sounding, fiery-bright;
   Flaming, aerial-light, with angry voice, lightning thro' lucid clouds with horrid noise.
   Untam'd, to whom resentments dire belong, pure, holy pow'r, all-parent, great and strong:
   Come, and benevolent these rites attend, and grant my days a peaceful, blessed end.

   4. Activation

By now you should be in an altered state of conciousness. Sit and relax some more and look down at your sigils. This is a passive activation method akin to a mandala meditation. Sit and breathe until you are ready to proceed.
Pick up each sigil card in turn and hold it a comfortable distance from your face. Stare at it, do not rush. Meditate on it and let your thoughts wander, gently bringing them back to the form of the sigil. Look at it as if you are seeing it for the first time. Let your eyes unfocus so that its lines begin to warp and double.

After a time - undetermined - the sigil you are holding will blur and deflate. As if the paper you are holding USED to be magical, but now it is mundane or just a piece of paper. What that happens, put it down and say:

Does not matter, need not be.

Continue in this way until all of your sigils are activated.

Close as appropritate to whomever/whatever you have invoked.
